Conductor Bar

Conductor Bar Systems — North America's Most Comprehensive Crane Electrification Range

Conductor bar is the backbone of overhead crane and hoist electrification — delivering continuous, reliable power to moving crane bridges, hoists, monorails, conveyors, and automated storage and retrieval systems across the full range of North American industrial environments. Crane-Controls.com is one of the most established online sources for conductor bar systems in the United States, stocking the broadest range of enclosed and open conductor bar brands available from a single specialist supplier — backed by over 50 years of crane electrification application knowledge and in-house technical support.

What is Conductor Bar?

Conductor bar — also referred to as conductor rail, electrification rail, or runway bar — is a fixed electrical supply system mounted along a crane runway or monorail track. A moving collector shoe rides the conductor bar as the crane travels, maintaining continuous electrical contact and delivering power to the crane bridge, hoist motor, pendant control station, or radio control receiver without the need for trailing cables. Conductor bar systems are the preferred electrification method for overhead cranes, hoists, and monorails in permanent industrial installations, offering a cleaner, more durable, and lower-maintenance alternative to festoon cable systems for most runway applications.

Conductor Bar Applications

Conductor bar systems are specified across the full range of US industrial environments — from light-duty monorail hoists in assembly operations to high-amperage bridge crane runways in steel mills, automotive stamping plants, foundries, and heavy fabrication facilities. Enclosed conductor bar systems provide safe, insulated power delivery in environments where personnel work beneath or near energized runways. This is a critical safety consideration for OSHA compliance in general industry and construction applications governed by 29 CFR 1910 and 29 CFR 1926. Outdoor and harsh environment applications including shipyards, port facilities, rail maintenance operations, and cold storage facilities are served by weatherproof and heated conductor bar configurations stocked  offered by Crane-Controls.com.

The Crane-Controls.com Conductor Bar Range

Crane-Controls.com stocks the most comprehensive conductor bar inventory available from a single US crane electrification specialist, carrying every major enclosed and open conductor bar system used in North American industrial installations:

SAF-T-BAR — North America's most widely specified enclosed insulated conductor bar system, available in Series T, C, J and HC, T, H, and J configurations from 65A100A to 1500A. Crane-Controls.com is one of North America's most established SAF-T-BAR stocking distributors.

Insul-8 — a comprehensive conductor bar range including 8-Bar, Safe-Lec 2 and, Hevi-Bar II, 8-Bar, and Side Contact systems covering light industrial through heavy-duty applications up to 1,500A.

Duct-O-Bar — a proven North American conductor bar standard available in Figure Eight, Heated Figure Eight, Totally Enclosed Figure 8, and Side Contact configurations for indoor, outdoor, and cold environment applications.  All Figure 8 profiles are offered in 110A through 350A.  Duct-O-Bar HD Series offers a high amperage heavy duty conductor ranging from 500A through 1500A for large cranes and mobile equipment where strength, reliability and safety are required.

Wampfler — precision-engineered conductor rail systems including the 811, 812, 813, 815, 831, and 842 series for standard through extreme-duty industrial environments.

Vahle — high-performance modular conductor rail in KBH, KSL, U10, U20, U30, and U40 series for demanding industrial and automated applications.

Selecting the Right Conductor Bar System

Choosing the right conductor bar for your crane runway depends on several application variables — current and amperage requirements, runway length, indoor or outdoor installation, environmental conditions including temperature, moisture, and contamination, mounting orientation, and budget. Crane-Controls.com's technical team provides pre-sale application support for conductor bar selection, cross-referencing existing installations, and specifying complete system packages including collectors, hangers, expansion joints, end power feeds, and all accessories. OSHA and ASME B30 compliant installations supported across the full conductor bar range.

Limit Switches

Each series of TER limit switch offered by Crane-Controls.com feature die-cast alloy enclosures, covers and switch-heads with weather-proof gaskets used at every joint. Switch contact points are made of Silver-alloy material, specially designed to facilitate strong starting currents.

What is the difference between a slow-break and quick-break limit switches?

Mechanical switch operation for quick-break types is instantaneous and not determined by the strength of external control action. For slow-break limit switches control input is transferred as a direct pressure on the moving part of the contacts so break time is directly related to speed of control input, More information limit switches can be found here.

Machine Protection

Crane-Controls.com offers top of the line machine protection solutions from Kabelschlepp for protecting guideways on machine tools. Way wipers from Kabelschlepp feature replaceable wiper lips so that once worn down, only the lip needs to be exchanged. Way wipers are resistance to alkaline substances, amino acids, petrol and hydrolysis, as well as oxygen, ozone and UV rays.

What is the difference between BA way wipers and BAS way wipers?

BA way wipers are used primarily for tight installation conditions or used is areas where the path way wiper is can be protected by a telescopic cover, bellows or a link apron or where no shavings can occur. BAS way wipers are constructed of lightweight aluminum with a built in protector. These are usually used for direct chip waste where there are no hot chips.
