Smart-Move Variable Frequency Drives
Power Electronics Smart-Move — Crane-Specific VFD for Bridge, Trolley, and Hoist Applications from 0.5 to 3HP
Power Electronics Smart-Move is a compact crane-specific variable frequency drive engineered for bridge, trolley, and hoist motor control applications from 0.5 to 3HP — delivering smooth starting, smooth transitions, soft reversing, and integrated regeneration in a drive platform sized and priced for the light-duty crane and hoist applications where full-scale Micro-Speed CX or MX-Ultra drives represent unnecessary cost and complexity. Smart-Move is the Power Electronics specification for smaller crane and hoist motor control requirements where crane-specific performance — smooth acceleration, controlled deceleration, DC injection braking, and multi-speed control — is needed in a compact, straightforward package.
Smart-Move delivers smooth starting, smooth speed transitions, soft reversing, DC injection braking, and Gang-Set six-second programming in a compact drive sized for light-duty crane applications where full-scale Micro-Speed CX or MX-Ultra capability is not required. Regeneration resistors are included in all Smart-Move configurations stocked by Crane-Controls.com — safely dissipating the energy generated during motor braking in crane travel and hoist lowering applications, preventing voltage spikes that would otherwise cause drive trips and reduce drive service life. Smart-Move is available in R configuration with regeneration resistors and thermal overloads, and RP configuration with regeneration resistors and integrated brake contactor — for applications where an integrated brake contactor is preferred over separate overload protection. Available from 0.5HP through 3HP across 208-460VAC and 575VAC configurations for US and Canadian crane installations.
Smart-Move is well suited to US jib crane, small monorail hoist, and light-duty bridge crane applications where motor horsepower requirements fall within the 0.5 to 3HP range and where the smooth starting, controlled transitions, and crane-specific braking performance of a dedicated crane drive deliver meaningful advantages over general-purpose soft-starts and basic contactor control systems. For applications above 3HP, the Micro-Speed CX or MX-Ultra is the appropriate Power Electronics specification.
Crane-Controls.com's technical team provides pre-sale application support for Smart-Move drive selection, motor compatibility verification, and Gang-Set configuration guidance for US crane applications. OSHA and ASME B30 compliant installations supported.
