TER Limit Switches: Rotary and Position Limit Switches for US Overhead Crane and Hoist Applications

TER Rotary Limit Switches mount directly to a rotating shaft — typically the crane bridge, trolley, or hoist drive shaft or gearbox output — and measure shaft rotation angle and number of revolutions continuously throughout crane operation. Because they monitor the drive shaft directly rather than detecting a physical position along the travel path, rotary limit switches provide multi-point programmable switching across the full travel range of the crane motion — enabling slow-down switching before end-of-travel as well as final stop switching at the travel limit. Rotary limit switches are the preferred specification for bridge, trolley, and hoist travel limit control where programmable multi-point position sensing and continuous rotation monitoring are required. TER Position Limit Switches are physically actuated by contact with a moving machine component — a crane bridge bumper, trolley stop, hoist hook block, or runway end stop — triggering a switching action at a defined fixed point along the travel path. Position limit switches do not monitor continuous travel — they respond to a single physical actuation event at the point where the actuator contacts the switch. They are the standard specification for hoist over-travel protection where a simple, reliable electromechanical stop is required at a fixed point, and for crane runway end-of-travel applications where the cross-actuator configuration of the TER Cross Limit Switch engages the runway stop from either direction of bridge travel.
