Control Chief Summit Series: Industrial Radio Remote Control for US Overhead Crane and Hoist Applications
Control Chief Summit Series is a proven industrial radio remote control system engineered for overhead crane and hoist applications requiring reliable, straightforward wireless control across the broad range of US general industrial environments. Available in four model configurations covering single-speed and two-speed operation in 4-motion and 5-motion layouts, the Summit Series delivers the crane-specific wireless control performance, robust IP65 construction, and operational simplicity that US crane builders, electrical contractors, and maintenance teams specify for standard overhead crane radio remote control installations. Control Chief Corporation is ISO 9001 certified, backed by more than four decades of experience designing, manufacturing, and installing wireless remote control systems for the material handling industry.
The Summit Series operates on 430–435 MHz unlicensed frequency — FCC Part 15 compliant, requiring no frequency licensing or coordination for US installations. Operating range extends to 1,000 feet with eight programmable power settings, covering the full range of US industrial facility sizes from standard manufacturing bays to large multi-bay production floors. Over one million unique 20-bit factory-set ID codes ensure that no two Summit Series systems share the same address, preventing cross-system interference in facilities operating multiple radio remote control systems simultaneously. Seventy operating channels with 25kHz channel spacing and manual channel scan capability allow the system to find and lock onto the clearest available frequency in electrically noisy US industrial environments where variable frequency drives, welding equipment, and other radio-frequency-generating equipment create interference conditions that degrade less robustly engineered wireless systems.
Both transmitter and receiver are constructed from glass fiber-reinforced nylon with IP65 enclosure ratings, protecting against dust ingress and water spray in the industrial environments encountered across US manufacturing, steel, automotive, and food processing facilities. The transmitter runs on four standard AA alkaline batteries with three-color LED power indication — green for sufficient power, yellow for depleting, and red for insufficient power with automatic mainline disconnect signal to prevent unsafe operation from a failing transmitter. Transmitter dimensions are 6.42" x 1.93" x 1.77" at 0.62 lbs with batteries. The receiver accepts AC power supply at 48V, 110V, or 220V (50/60Hz) or DC at 12/24V, with 110VAC as factory default, accommodating the full range of US crane control panel power configurations without field modification. The receiver's pre-wired 70" pigtail cable with 23 conductors simplifies installation directly into existing crane control circuits.
Safety features built into every Summit Series system meet the requirements of OSHA 29 CFR 1910.179, CMAA, and ASME B30 for US overhead crane radio remote control installations. These include watchdog error circuitry that continuously monitors system integrity, FDDI (Frequency Deviation Deflection Indicator) monitoring for signal quality, dual series force-guided E-Stop relays rated 10A/250VAC, automatic mainline disconnect on signal loss or low battery condition, red mushroom pushbutton emergency stop accessible from any operator position, rotary key switch to prevent unauthorized operation, startup and shutdown alarm, jammed relay detection, and auto-off function configurable from 10 minutes to 4 hours. The receiver must not be installed in explosive environments without appropriate secondary enclosure measures.
Summit Series Model Selection
Four model configurations cover the standard range of US overhead crane motion control requirements:
SK1400 — Single-speed, 4-motion. Eight pushbuttons controlling four motion groups at single speed. The standard specification for US crane installations with single-speed bridge, trolley, and hoist motor control.
SK2400 — Two-speed, 4-motion. Eight pushbuttons controlling four motion groups with two-speed relay outputs for 1st and 2nd speed on each motion group. The correct specification for US crane installations with two-speed motor control on bridge, trolley, or hoist motions.
SK1500 — Single-speed, 5-motion. Adds a fifth motion group to the SK1400 platform for US crane installations requiring an additional auxiliary motion — magnet, grab, rotating hook, or secondary hoist control — alongside standard bridge, trolley, and hoist motions at single speed.
SK2500 — Two-speed, 5-motion. Combines the two-speed relay output capability of the SK2400 with the five-motion configuration of the SK1500 — the most fully specified Summit Series model for US crane installations requiring both two-speed control and a fifth auxiliary motion.
All Summit Series models support pushbutton customization including normal momentary, dual motor modes 1 and 2, and interlocked motion groups. Aux buttons are programmable for on/off, inching, and toggle modes. Remote pairing allows transmitter-to-receiver matching in the field without factory reprogramming.
